CHAMPION (JIG) [3], THE. Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). Canada; New Brunswick, Cape Breton. F Major ('A' part) & D Minor ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The tune can be found (with parts reversed) as part of "Flanagan's Jig (2)". With parts reversed, it is sometimes set in the key of E minor. Peter Corfield (2024) notes that it was played in the 1940's by fiddler Mont MacDonald for square dances, and that fiddler and bandleader Archibald McEarchern is thought to have introduced it to New Brunswick fiddling repertory.
