CHURCH OF CLEGGAN, THE. Irish, Air or March (4/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Darley and McCall note there was an old Gaelic song enititled "The Clay of the Church of Creggan". The tune was played by uilleann piper Dan Markey of Castleblayney at the Feis Coel held in Belfast in 1898, recorded on an Edison cylider. Brendan Breathnach, writing in the publication Ceol (VIII, 1986) says that the authors (and probably Darley) took some liberties with the transcriptions as compared to the recorded music:

Occasionally the line of the melody is altered for no obvious reason. 'The Church of Cleggan' besides the verbal error in the title shows radical changes in the melody which are not supported by the recording.
