COQUET [2], THE. English, Country Dance (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. There are numerous other tunes called "Coquet" or "Coquette", but this melody appears unique to the Thompson's 1788 collection. The title probably refers to a play or other staged production; there are numerous such 18th century works with 'Coquet' in the title, and the one to which the title refers is unknown.
