DILLY'S FAVORITE. AKA and see "Squirrel Hunters (The)," "Squirrel Hunting," "Old Common Time," "Pennsylvania Quickstep (2) (The)," "Nigger in the Woodpile (1)," "Jenny Put the Kettle On (3)." American, March (2/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bayard (1981) identifies his Pennsylvania collected versions as belonging to a large and extremely diverse tune family prominent in the British Isles and the U.S.; this he terms the "Welcome Home" family. British Isles versions are numerous according to him, and include "Oysterwives Rant," "Haughs of Cromdale (The)," "Hillside (2) (The)," "Welcome Home (3)," "(Fare Thee Well) Sweet Killaloe," "Wat Ye how the Play Began." In southwestern Pa. it was collected mostly from fife sources and was known by them as a "stop beat" piece.
