DOCTOR [3], THE. Scottish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Scots fiddler-composer J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927), in honor of Dr. Keith Norman MacDonald (1834-c.1906), editor of The Skye Collection (1887) and The Gesto Collection of Highland Music (two volumes, 1895 & 1898). MacDonald was a medical physician and an amateur musician and enthusiastic supporter of Scottish music. Skinner dedicated his Harp and Claymore (1904) collection to him, and noted on the manuscript copy [1] of this tune, "To Dr Keith Norman Macdonald compiler of the Famous Skye Collection 'and unwavering patron & friend of the composer'."
