IT WAS A LOVER AND HIS LASS. English, Air (4/4 time). G Mixolydian (Chappell): D Major (Kines). Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The air, a duet composed by Thomas Morley, appears in his First Book of Ayres or Little Short Songs; to sing and play to the Lute, with the Base Viola (1600). The song can be found in Shakespeare's As You Like It (act V, scene 3), where it is sung by two pages.
