JOCKIE BLYTH AND GAY. AKA - "Blythe Jocky, young and gay." Scottish, Air (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Instrumental versions of the air appear in several old publications, including William McGibbon's (1690 – 1756) Scots Tunes Book 1 (1762, set for violin, cello/harpsichord), James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion, vol. 1 (c. 1743, pp. 2-3), Francis Peacock's Fifty Favourite Scotch Airs For a Violin, German-Flute and Violoncello (London, 1762, p. 13), and Oswald's Curious Collection of Scots Tunes (1740). It was also entered into the 1782 music manuscript book of musician Jeremiah Brown (Seabrook, N.H.).

Words to the song were printed in Johnson's Scots Musical Museum vol. 1 (1787, Song 29, p. 30) and begin:

Blythe Jocky young and gay, is all my heart's delight,
He's all my talk by day, and all my dreams by night.
If from the lad, I be,
'Tis winter then with me,
But when he tarries here,
'Tis summer all the year.
