KEMP'S HORNPIPE. Scottish, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This tune appears in Honeyman as "an excellent study for the mastery of 'The Sand Dance' style (of hornpipe playing)". A sand dance was a type of clog or step dance performed by stage dancers in the latter 19th century, named after the practice of sanding the stage to facilitate smooth movements of the foot.
