LEISTER HOUSE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Leister House was the residence of Caroline of Ansbach, wife of George Augustus, or King George II of England. She was an intelligent woman, considered a great beauty in her time, but with a strong will and progressive attitude. She and her father-in-law, George I, frequently disagreed, in part because of the insistence of George in keeping strong German influences in his English court. Caroline was more assimilated, and set up a small rival court at Leister House. She became Queen upon the ascension of her husband to the throne.
