LITTLE DIAMOND [2]. AKA and see "Girl from Lettermore (The)." Irish, Polka (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB (Callaghan, Taylor): AA'BB' (Mallinson). The tune was recorded in New York in 1936 on a 78 RPM disc by the master Irish fiddler from County Sligo, James Morrison (James Morrison's Quartet). He paired "Little Diamond" with "Magic Slipper (2) (The)." The name of this polka is sometimes mistakenly called "Magic Slipper" because of this pairing.
Martin Flaherty Band recorded it for the Copley label as "Girl from Lettermore (The)." No relation to "Little Diamond (1)", a 'Sand Jig' (2/4 time). The tune has been picked up by English traditional musicians and can be heard in sessions in that country.
