The tune may possibly be named for Eliza Caroline, daughter of John Bushby Maitland of Eccles, county Dumfries, a Member of Parliament. Francis O'Neill printed the tune in his Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody (1922) as "Never Grow Old."
