Researcher Conor Ward finds the tune to be a version of "Nelson's Pillar." Fr. John Quinn found a precursor tune in Dublin publisher Maurice Hime's Hime's Collection of Favourite Country Dnaces for the Present Year (1795) under the title "Naval Pillar (2) (The)."
