PICKING OF/UP STICKS. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The melody and dance instructions were published by John Playford in his English Dancing Master (1651), and continued under the "Picking of Sticks" title through the 10th edition of the Dancing Master (1698), then published by John's son, Henry.
