POLKA [39]. AKA and see "Royal Polka Quadrille - Figure 2," "Vienna Polka." Irish(?), Polka (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. An untitled polka of unknown provenance found in the c. 1863-73 music copybook of County Mayo farmer and fiddler Philip Carolan (c. 1839-1910). The polka may have been copied from an unknown source and does not have a particularly Irish character. Researcher Conor Ward finds the tune cognate with "Vienna Polka" from Köhler’s Violin Repository Book 3 (1885, p. 264), and the untitled "Polka (39)" from Philip Carolan's ms.
