PRESIDENT'S WELCOME TO YORK, THE.   American, Jig (6/8 time). G Major ('A' and 'B' parts) & G Minor ('C' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. "The President's Welcome to York" commemorates the visit in July, 1817, of the new President James Monroe to York County, Maine, while the White House was under reconstruction.  He was the first president to visit the state of Maine, and received a respectful and patriotic reception, with the populace lining his route. Perceived as pragmatic and non-partisan, the straight-forward new president was popular for his association with peace following the war of 1812.
