RED BIRD [1]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA; Oklahoma. A Major {Thede}: A Major (sections 'A', 'B' and 'D') and D Major ('C') {Phillips}. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The tune attempts to imitate the call of a bird in one of the sections, and features pizzicato or plucked notes. Guthrie Meade notes the tune is very similar to Uncle Jimmy Thompson's "Billy Wilson (2)," recorded for Columbia in 1926. It is related in some parts to "Red Bird Reel."

Source for notated version: Jubal Anderson (Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma) [Thede]; Byron Berline [Phillips].
