Alfred Montmarquette
REEL DE VALLEYFIELD [1]. AKA – "Valleyfield Reel." French Canadian, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The reel is attributed to, and was popularized by, accordion player and composer Alfred Montmarquette [1] (1871–1944). Pascal Gemme (of the group Genticorum) says the tune is well-known by fiddlers in Montréal. Salabery-de-Valleyfield is a town located on an island on the Saint Lawrence River, southwest of Montréal, not far from the border with New York. The name 'Valleyfield' was taken from the Valleyfield Mills, a paper mill south of Edinburgh, Scotland.
