ROXBURGHSHIRE CAVALRY YEOMANRY'S MARCH, THE. Scottish, March (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The Yeomanry Cavalry was the mounted component of the British Volunteer Corps, a military auxiliary established in the late 18th century amid fears of invasion and insurrection during the French Revolutionary Wars. The Roxburghshire yeomanry cavalry was raised in 1797 and was first commanded (for a short time) by Sir James Pringle, 4th Baronet, of Stichell. Thomas Calvert was a musician in Kelso who had a collection containing this march printed for him. It was for sale at his house, "Where may be had a Variety of Music and Instruments. Instruments lent out Tun'd and Repaired."
