TEXAS GALS. AKA - "Texas Gales." AKA and see “Knocking at Your Door (2).” American, Reel (cut time). USA. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. "Texas Gals" is a tune associated with the southwestern Virginia and northwestern North Carolina region, however, the first recording of the tune was by the group the Hillbillies, whose fiddlers were Charlie Bowman and Elonzo Elvis "Tony" Alderman. However, Jody Stecher is of the opinion that there is only one fiddler on the "Texas Gals" recording; Doc Watson thought it might be Bowman, but Stecher believes (for stylistic reasons) that the player was Alderman. The variant title “Texas Gales” title comes from the Doc Watson recording of the tune, but Kerry Blech, for one, believes it was a miss-hearing of “Texas Gals,” spoken in a North Carolina drawl.
