THAUGH SHAY. AKA and see "Splash'd Petticoat." English, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Researcher Conor Ward finds a cognate, nearly identical version as the country dance and jig "Splash'd Petticoat" published in London by both David Rutherford and John Johnson in the 1750's. The title may be a phonetic approximation of the Irish tá sé, suggests Fr. John Quinn, "meaning 'he is' or 'it is', depending on the context... Of course, it may be a complete coincidence."
