TURN THE PIG FROM THE TEA POT. Irish, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune may be played as a reel and may have been meant for a country dance. Nowadays it could also be played as a polka, however, that dance was not introduced to Prague ballrooms until 1835, and to Paris ballrooms in 1840, and was unknown to Richard Fitzmaurice when compiling his 1807 collection. Researcher Fr. John Quinn points out the the next tune on the page of Richard Fitzmaurice's collection, an untitled jig (for which see "Jig (2)"), is a version of "Turn the Pig from the Tea Pot," set in 6/8 time.
