UGDARÁS GAN EOLAS. Irish, Double Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Joyce's name "Ughdarás gan Eolas" (Údarás gan Eolas in modern Irish spelling) means "Authority Without Knowledge," an old Munster proverb recorded in the 1926 book Seanfhocail na Muimhneach by An Seabhach (Pádraig Ó Siochfhradha) with the explanation: "A bhíonn ag an dream a labhras go h-údarásach i dtaobh gnótha ná bíonn ach beagán d'á eolas aca" ("those who speak with authority do so with little knowledge").
