LES YEUX VERTS (Green Eyes). French-Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). A Major ('A' part) & G Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB.The first strain of "Les yeux verts" is shared with "St. Lawrence Jig", popularized by Don Messer and others, including Joseph Allard and Isidore Soucy ("Clog canadienne"). Researcher Jean Duval notes that Allard recorded versions of "St. Lawrence Jig" twice (in different keys) and taught yet a third version to Montreal fiddler Jean Carignan. The second strain of Bocher's "Les yeux verts", points out Duval, differs from all other similarly related tunes. His quadrille-like tune is distinguished by a curious modulation of the first strain (set in the key of 'A' major) to the second strain (set in the key of 'G' major).
