American, Canadian; Waltz (9/8 or 3/4 time). A Major ('A' part) & E Major ('B' part). Standard tuning. ABA (Phillips, Silberberg, Williams): ABCA'B'C' {part 'C' is a variation of 'A' played at the octave} (Gibbons). “A and E Waltz” is one of the ‘100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes’ according to Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden. It has been attributed to fiddler Rusty Modrell (1916-1995), according to Stuart Williams. Modrell was born in Filer, Idaho, but raised in Pendleton and Redmond, Oregon, where he owned an upholstery shop. He was a founding member of the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association and a former state champion. Some Northwest fiddlers have played it in the keys of B flat and F, calling it the "[[Paradise Waltz]]." | ||
