MRS. THOMPSON OF GOFTONâS STRATHSPEY. AKA and see âPibroch! (The),â âWhinham's Reel.â Scottish, Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBâ. A strathspey setting of âWhinham's Reel.â Robert Whinham (1814-1893) was a musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler, originally from Morpeth. Graham Dixon (1995) suggests that this tune and Whinhamâs âGofton House Hornpipeâ may have been written for the same patron, and wonders if the âMiss Thompson's Hornpipeâ in the Charlton Memorial Tune Book may also have been composed for a member of the family.
