PEEP O' DAY RANGER, THE. Irish, Air (6/8 time). D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The title may refer to the Peep o' Day Boys [1], an agrarian Protestant association in 18th century Ireland. Originally noted as being an agrarian society around 1779–80, from 1785 it became the Protestant component of the sectarian conflict that emerged in County Armagh. Or, Peep o' Day may be as innocuous as the name of a prize-winning racehorse.
