Irish, Double Jig. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Roche, Sullivan): AA'BCC'D (Mitchell). Clare takes its name from the 12th century leader of a Norman conquering expedition, Gilbert de Clare, nicknamed Strongbow. See also the similar "Ball of Ballynafeidh (The)/Humors of Ballnafeidh (The)," "Banks of Lough Gowna (The)," "Kitten and the Frog (The)," "Kitty in the Fog," "Paddy O'Brien's Jig (1)," "Stonecutter's Jig (The)," "Tom Billy's Jig (1)," "Young Tom Ennis," "Rambler from Clare (1) (The)." The tune was recorded in Chicago in 1928 by fiddler Michael Cashin (as "Ginger's Favorite").
