AMERICAN MARCH. AKA and see "Green Horse March (The)," "Inverary March," "O'Brien of Arra," "Sir Barry Denny's March." American(?), Irish (?); March (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Despite Howe's title, the 'American' march is of unknown provenance. It was known in Ireland in the 19th century and was entered into musicians' manuscript collections (Goodman, Donnellan) under the alternate titles, and was printed by Frank Roche in the early 20th century as "O'Brien of Arra." Glasgow publisher James S. Kerr issued it in the 1880's as "Inverary March."
