ANDY RENWICK'S FERRET. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The ferret of the title supposedly refers to a human being. Composer credits for this modern melody are usually attributed to piper Gordon Duncan (1965-2005, of the band Craob Rua), although a United Kingdom musician named "Gordon Lincoln" is (erroneously) credited by Perlman. Paul Stewart Cranford (2015) points out that the piece employs 'c' natural notes, a pitch that is difficult to render accurately on the pipes and involves a complicated control of the fingers on the chanter.
