ASH WEDNESDAY [2]. English, Country Dance Tune and Jig (6/8). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody and country dance directions were published in London by John Johnson in his Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (1750) and in David Rutherford's Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (c. 1756). London musician Thomas Hammersley entered it into his 1790 music manuscript collection.
