BACKUS' REST. American, Hornpipe or Clog (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title probably refers to blackface minstrel performers and musicians named Backus. Dan and Zeke Backus are both mentioned in titles in various Howe publications. Perhaps the "rest" in the title refers to the rest note syncopation in the fourth bar.
