BALLET HOLLANDOISE, LA . English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning. AABBCCDD. The EASMES site lists the first appearance of this melody in B. Andrez's periodical L'Echo, ou Journal de Musique francoise, published in Leige, Belgium, in 1758. The melody next appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773), followed by Straight and Skillern's Two Hundred and Four Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (London, 1775) and Skillern's Compleat Collection of Two Hundred and Four Reels...Country Dances (London, 1780). EASMES also lists a printing in M. Landrin's Potpourri Francois de Contre Danse Ancienne (Paris, 1780). "Ballet Hollandoise" was entered into the music manuscript copybooks of fiddlers George White (1790, Cherry Valley, N.Y.), and John and William Pitt Turner (1788, Norwich, Conn.).
