BALLYMAHON REEL, THE. AKA and see "Capel Street," "Mrs. Crehan's Reel." Irish, Reel (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. According to James Keane fiddler "James Hanly, Curroole, Newtowncashel, Co. Longford resurrected this reel for Brendan Breathnach Ceol Rince na hEireann Vol. 1 (1963)". However, the citation cannot be verified. In fact the only citation in Breathnach's volumes for Hanly is from Seán Keane, who supplied a different reel, “Primrose Girl (1)”, from a recording of James Hanly and P. Farrell, to Breathnach for Ceol Rince na hEireann Vol. 2 (1976). It is the only tune Breathnach published as either directly or indirectly received from James Hanly[1].
