BARLEY STRAW. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. In addition to Daniel Wright's 1740 country dance collection (printed in London by John Johnson), the tune appears in John Walsh's The Third Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (London, 1735, p. 151, and the later edition of 1749, p. 149). It also was entered into the c. 1790 music copybook of London musician Thomas Hammersley.
