Irish, Double Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC (Boys/Lough, Mallinson, Miller): AA'BB'CC' (Vallely). As a four-part melody called "Box the Monkey," it appears in the music manuscript collection of cleric James Goodman (1828-1896). Another early printing is in Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 1 (c. 1875) as "Munster Buttermilk (1)."
