BERKELEY CASTLE. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning. AABB. The melody is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson's third country dance collection (London, 1773). Berkeley Castle [1] was originally a Norman Castle dating from the time of Henry II, near the town of Berkeley, Gloucestershire. It is traditionally thought to be the site of the murder of King Edward II in 1327. The castle is still owned and occupied by the Berkeley family.
