BIRTH NIGHT, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The melody and country dance directions were also printed by London publisher Thomas Skillern in Skillern's Compleat Collection of Two Hundred & Four Reels (1780). Since the tune originally was published by Straight & Skillern in 1773, the title may refer to the birth of Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, the son of George III and Queen Charlotte, on January 27th, 1773.
