BOG OF RANNES, THE. Scottish, Jig. E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by North East fiddler-compoer biography:Alexander Walker. Rannes, or, in its more modern spelling, Rannas, was the estate of the Hays family through the Jacobite rising of 1745. Andrew Hays (who was over seven feet tall!) participated in the rising, survived several battles, including Culloden, and managed to hide for more than five years afterwards on the estates of the family, hidden by tenents and his mother. He finally fled to the Continent, but was able to return later, although he found his home had burned. He rebuilt, albeit less grandly, and remained on the estate until his death in 1789.
