BOLD DESERTER, THE (An treigteor dana). AKA and see "Deserter (The)." Irish; Long Dance, Set Dance or Air (2/4 or 4/4 time {O'Neill 1915}). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part (O'Neill/1915 ed. & 1001, Roche): AB (O'Neill/1850, air version): AABB (O'Neill/Krassen & 1850). Presented in air, long dance and set dance forms in O'Neill's Music of Ireland, slightly different from one another. O'Neill's version in his 1907 Dance Music of Ireland he said was gleaned from a c. 1796 volume of country dance airs "issued serially by different authors" in London, although he did not identify it further.

Additional notes
Source for notated version : - the set dance (No. 1791 in MOI) and air (No. 291) are attributed to "Mrs. Cantwell" [O'Neill]; the version No 982 in DMI is attributed to Chicago fiddler Edward Cronin, originally from County Tipperary [O'Neill].
