English, Scottish; Country Dance Tune (4/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "The Lass of Livingston" was entered by Scottish fiddler and writing master biography:David Young in his MacFarlane Manuscript (vol. 2, 1741, No. 3, p. 6). The tune appears, with the addition of "Bonnie..." to the title, in James Aird's Selections of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 2 (Glasgow, 1785, p. 30). Aird also gives a version in the same volume (p. 25) as "Favourite Highland Quick Step 73rd Regt. (A)." See also note for "annotation:Claw Her Weam" for more background information.
