"BOSS", THE. AKA and see "Old Horned Sheep (The)," "Pet in the Kitchen (The)." American, Irish (originally); Jig. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. See also Donegal fiddler John Doherty's tune "Pet in the Kitchen (The)." American origins for the tune are doubtful, as it appears to be an amalgam of two old Irish tunes, "Humors of Donnybrook (1)" and "Sweet Biddy Daly" (the 'A' and 'B' parts, respectively). The title is perhaps a reference to the nickname one of Boston publisher Elias Howe's sources, Jimmy Norton (see note for "Boss Clog Hornpipe (The)").
