BOULANGER, LA. AKA - "The Baker," "La Boulangère." English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody and dance instructions were printed by Joseph Dale and appear in his Dale's Collection of Reels and Dances (1798-1803). Colin Hume points out that the article 'La' in the title indicates a female baker. It was the only dance that novelist Jane Austin mentioned by name in her books (e.g. Chapt. 3, Pride and Prejudice).
