BRAES O' FORBES, THE. AKA - "Fiddler's Braes o' Forbes (The)." Scottish, Pipe Strathspey (whole time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Braes o' Forbes" was composed by George S. McLennan (1884-1929), Pipe Major with the Gordon Highlanders. Paul Stewart Cranford (2015) published a version that circulated for some time among Cape Breton fiddlers as an untitled traditional tune. The fiddle version differs in detail but is recognizable the same as McLennan's pipe tune, although Cranford christened his version "Fiddler's Braes o' Forbes" to underline the difference.
