BRIER BUSH. AKA and see "Favorite March from Oscar and Malvina (2)," "Little Fanny's Love (1)," "My Little Peggy Love," Scottish, Fling (Reel). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears as "My Little Peggy Love" in the 1821 music manuscript book of fiddler John Burks. Burks was probably from the north of England, although nothing is known of him. Similarly, it was entered as "Little Fanny's Love (1)" in the 1802-04 music copybook of ship's fiddler William Litten. John Macpherson Mulhollan printed the tune as the second of "Three Favorite Marches in Oscar and Malvina" (see "Favorite March in Oscar and Malvina (2)") in his Selection of Irish and Scots Tunes (1804), referencing the tune's appearance in the popular ballet-pantomime Oscar and Malvina (1791), with music by William Shield (completed by William Reeve, 1757-1815).
