BRIGHTEST EYES. AKA and see "Blackthorn Stick (4) (The)," "Jolly Clam-diggers (1) (The)," "Old Blackthorn (The)," "Rising Sun (2) (The)." American, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune's provenance is almost certainly Irish, although no printed versions predate Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). Francis O'Neill printed the tune as "Girl with the Laughing Eyes (The)," a similar title. See also variants "Sweeney's Dream" (as recorded by New York/Sligo fiddlers Paddy Killoran and Paddy Sweeney) and the related (particularly in the first strain) "Rising Sun (2) (The)" tune family.
