BURY VOLUNTEERS, THE. English, Hornpipe. England, East Anglia. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe was composed by J. Gray and appears in his publication Twenty Four Country Dances for the Year 1812, published in Bury St. Edmunds, East Anglia. The title refers to a local militia raised during the Napoleonic Wars to help defend the island from invasion by the French, but also to free up regular army units for service overseas.
