CAILLICH ODHAR [2] (The Sallow-Faced Hag). Scottish, March (cut time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (and variations). Appears as in David Young's (c. 1707-c.1770) MacFarlane MS. of 1740 (as "Cailleach Ouer," attributed to him though actually only the variations are his), and in the McLean Collection of 1772 published by James Johnson in Edinburgh. David Johnson (1983) thinks the tune may perhaps be of bagpipe origin, from the 17th century.
