CAMBRIAN LYRIST, THE. AKA and see "Gas Lights." Welsh, English; Air and Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "The Cambrian Lyrist" was a "favorite song" that was composed and arranged into a rondo by wikipedia:Joh_Parry_(Bardd_Alaw), 1776-1851), printed in London in 1810 and "Performed with the greatest applause by the celebrated Miss Randles"[1]. Thus it was probably based on a Welsh song, which Parry helped popularize. It was entered into a few musicians' manuscript collections of the first half of the 19th century.
The jig was printed by Goulding & Co. (London) in 1808 under the title "Gas Lights."
