CANTON HORNPIPE. American, Hornpipe (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe was composed by one William G. Whipple and was printed in one of Boston music publisher Elias Howe's earlier collections. Canton is a community south of Boston, Massachusetts, nearby the community of Sharon, Massachusetts. Both are named in the titles of hornpipe melodies in Boston publisher Elias Howe's Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7 (1880-1882) (see also "Sharon Hornpipe").
