CAPRICIOUS LOVERS, THE. English, Country Dance Tune and Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Capricious Lovers was a comic two-act opera performed at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane in November, 1764. It was written by poet Robert Lloyd (who adapted it from an earlier French work), with music composed by George Rush. Lloyd [1] (1733–1764) was an accomplished man of letters, but was often in debt and expired in the same year his opera debuted, after being imprisoned in Fleet Prison.
